Il Rugby Viadana 1970 comunica di aver raggiunto un accordo per la prossima stagione sportiva con la terza linea Psalm Wooching. Il giocatore della nazionale americana, con la quale si è appena laureato campione del torneo americano ARC, proviene dai Seattle Sarances.

Psalm Wooching, nato a Kailua-Kona (Hawaii), il 16 gennaio del 1994, 194 cm, 110kg, arriverà in Italia per la prima volta nella sua vita per indossare la maglia giallonera.

Il ventitreenne ha una storia particolare alle spalle, motivo per cui in America è diventato molto famoso. Wooching, nel 2017 capitano della squadra di football Washington Huskies, il 16 febbraio del 2017 decide di abbandonare la sua carriera americana, rinunciando in questo modo a contratti milionari, per inseguire il suo sogno…giocare a rugby.

Filippo Frati, headcoach del Rugby Viadana 1970 dichiara: "Psalm è un giocatore che ho conosciuto e seguito negli ultimi mesi, in primis ci tengo a ringraziare pubblicamente il presidente Davide Tizzi e il direttore sportivo Alberto Bronzini per aver reso possibile questa importante operazione di mercato. Psalm mi ha colpito, oltre ovviamente per le sue incredibili qualità fisico/atletiche, per la personalità e la determinazione".

Psalm ha deciso di ascoltare il suo cuore e provare a diventare un giocatore di Rugby professionista, rinunciando al sogno di qualsiasi bambino americano, ovvero diventare un giocatore professionista in NFL.

"Come club, Rugby Viadana 1970, siamo orgogliosi di essere stati i primi a dargli questa possibilità. Lui ha creduto in noi e noi in lui".

Psalm ha dichiarato: "I am very blessed to be joining Viadana and coach Filippo Frati for next season. There is something special going on at Viadana and I can’t wait to start my professional career there. I have been working my whole life for this opportunity and I wouldn’t want to start off anywhere else. Excited to meet up with the team and get the 2018-2019 season underway".

È un atleta con caratteristiche fisiche importanti, molto veloce, ha iniziato giocando ala, ruolo in cui si è fatto notare per velocità, capacità nel battere l'avversario e aggressività in fase difensiva, proprio questa sua propensione al placcaggio (era capitano della difesa dei Washington Huskies) ha convinto lo staff della nazionale a puntare su di lui proponendogli di cambiare il ruolo, da ala a terza linea, più precisamente n.6 blindside flanker. In questa posizione ha recentemente esordito in Nazionale, vincendo il torneo americano ARC e riuscendo anche a marcare la sua prima meta internazionale, il 3 marzo 2018, in Uruguay.

Il nuovo giocatore giallonero arriverà a Viadana  a giugno.

It's official - Psalm Wooching is a new player of Rugby Viadana 1970

Rugby Viadana 1970 announces to have reached an agreement for next season with the blindside flanker Psalm Wooching. The player, who just won the American tournament ARC, comes from the Seattle Saracens.

Psalm Wooching, born in Kailua-Kona (Hawaii), the 16th of January 1994, 194cm, 110kg, will come to Italy for the first time to wear the black & yellow jersey. The young 23 year old has a particular story behind the reason why he became quite famous in America. Wooching, captain of the football team Washington Huskies in 2017, the 16th of February 2017 decided to leave his American career, renouncing millionaire contracts, to follow his dream... to play rugby.

Filippo Frati, Rugby Viadana 1970 headcoach states: "Psalm is a player I followed and got to know in the past months. First of all I would like to publicly thank team president Davide Tizzi and sports manager Alberto Bronzini for making this important market operation possible. Psalm impressed me, besides obviously for his incredible physical and athletic qualities, for his personality and determination."

Psalm decided to follow his heart and to try to become a professional rugby player, renouncing to the dream that many American kids have, to become a professional NFL player.

He is an athlete with important physical characteristics, really fast, he started playing as a wing, position where he was noted for speed, ability to beat the opponent and aggressiveness in the defensive phase, because of his propensity to tackle (he was the defensive team captain for the Washington Huskies) convinced the U.S. national team staff to focus on him by proposing to change his role, from wing to flanker, more precisely n.6 blindside flanker.

In this position he recently made his debut in the national team, winning the American ARC tournament and managing to score his first international try the 3rd march 2018 in Uruguay.

The new "giallonero" player will arrive in Viadana in June.
